Flinders student achieves her Commonwealth dream
She’s aiming to go to university next year, but first Year 12 Matthew Flinders Anglican College student Tessa Wallace will swim for Australia at the Commonwealth Games.
Tessa has just competed at the Senior Pan Pacific Championships in California as a member of the Australian Swim Team. As a result of her solid performance, Tessa’s ranking gained her selection in the Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi from October 3-14.

Excellence in music synonymous with Flinders
Matthew Flinders Anglican College’s claim to musical excellence was reinforced with a series of outstanding performances at this year’s Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod.
The College's String Orchestra, Stage Band and Wind Symphony were once again all awarded first place in the major Secondary ensemble categories at the annual event.
This amazing effort was completed when the Flinders Choir, Flinders Strings and Flinders Band also took first places in their Primary sections of the Eisteddfod.

Flinders welcomes grandparents for special day
Matthew Flinders Anglican College students welcomed their grandparents to school on Wednesday, August 18, to show them what happens at school in 2010.
Grandparents young and old travelled from local, interstate and even overseas to share the morning with their grandchildren.
Highlights of the annual event this year included Year 2 scientists conducting experiments at the Science Fair and the Prep students displaying their artwork in “Our Grandparents’ Gallery”.

Clinton makes sense of what computers see
One of the Sunshine Coast’s highest-achieving graduates is vying for the title of Australia’s favourite scientist.
Dr Clinton Fookes, who graduated with an OP1 from Matthew Flinders Anglican College in 1994 and was the College’s first ever Dux, has been chosen as a finalist in the People's Choice section of this year's prestigious science awards, the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes.
Dr Fookes, who studies computer vision for surveillance and biometrics at Queensland University of Technology, is one of only six finalists chosen from hundreds of entries in the Eureka Prizes for scientific research and innovation.

Madison sets sail for Youth Olympics in Singapore
Sunshine Coast youngster Madison Kennedy has not enjoyed an ideal preparation for the Youth Olympics.
The 15-year-old sailor is one of the best in the country at racing Laser boats but has had to learn how to sail a Byte CII in next to no time for the Singapore Games.
Kennedy, a Year 10 student at Matthew Flinders Anglican College, got her hands on one of the boats only about two months ago. That has not, however, stopped her pursuit of a gold medal at the inaugural Games.

Flinders among top achieving schools in Qld
Congratulations to the Flinders graduates of 2009 whose outstanding results have been acknowledged in the Year 12 Outcomes report released this week.
The 2009 OP comparisons are released by the State Government through the Queensland Studies Authority, and were published in Brisbane’s The Courier-Mail and the Sunshine Coast Daily on June 1.
Flinders is delighted to be acknowledged for the outstanding 2009 Year 12 results, including recognition as the top school on the Sunshine Coast for students achieving an OP1-5.
