Wellbeing
Much well considered research and practice is occurring throughout Australia about the importance of student wellbeing in schools. Wellbeing, a state of being happy, successful and content, is significant in providing a foundation on which learning social inclusion, engagement, resilience and happiness are based.
Our College has built upon good academic, sporting, co-curricular, positive relationships and pastoral care aspects of life at Flinders. It has, at its heart, the provision and encouragement of a culture and environment that promotes mental health and wellbeing. This includes curriculum, activities and programs to:
Increase confidence
- Build upon or learn new skills to recognise difficulties and stressors and opportunities to resolve these.
Increase optimism about students’ abilities and their future:
- Encourage caring for others and self,
- Allow students’ inquiry into life matters
- Highlight the importance of asking questions and seeking assistance.
Students in this wrap-around environment are better able to attend to their studies and relationships, and be happier in their surroundings. They feel safe, valued, engaged and purposeful.
