Learning at Flinders
Organised into Primary (Junior and Senior) and Secondary (Junior and Senior) Schools, the College structure encourages a sense of belonging and school spirit.
The Primary School provides seven years of education from the major intake Preparatory Year through to Year 6. Year 7 is the start of Secondary School at Matthew Flinders and our major intake year welcomes students from our Primary School together with additional students from local schools (State and Independent) and from overseas schools. Class sizes are kept to optimum teaching numbers. In Junior Secondary (Years 7 to 9), class sizes average 26 in core subjects and less in elective subjects. In Senior Secondary (Years 10-12), class sizes are usually smaller due to the wide variety of subjects available.

The House system is a special feature of our Secondary School. The House is the “home away from home” and the main pastoral care unit for students. There are eight Houses named after distinguished Australians, with the Head of House and House staff taking a special interest in the progress of their students. Each House supports and raises funds for its adopted charity and takes an active interest in the local community. Students meet daily in their House groups in the Secondary school, and in their class groups in the Primary school, for personal development activities, prayer and routine matters.
Both the Secondary and Primary Houses develop their own character and are the main student groupings for intra-school sporting, academic and cultural competitions.
