Flinders Year 6 students have been on a journey of discovery, empathy and understanding of the ever-changing situation faced by refugees in our modern world.
The journey started with a viewing of 'The Staging Post', a movie by Jolyon Hoff, which follows two Afghan Hazara refugees, Muzafar and Khadim. Stuck in Indonesia after Australia ‘stopped the boats’ and facing many years in limbo, they built a community and started the school which inspired a refugee education revolution. The film is a real-life, real-time, multi-platform documentary.
The film about friendship, connection and the power of a borderless community inspired Year 6 to make connections with Buddies Refugee support group on the Sunshine Coast and reach out online as digital penpals to students from Cisarua Refugee Learning Centre near Jakata.
Please join Flinders Year 6 students for a viewing of 'The Staging Post'. Tickets are $10.00 each with all funds raised, to be donated to Buddies and Cisarua Refugee Learning Centre.
