More than 20 alumni from Matthew Flinders Anglican College returned to the College last Friday, 10 May for the traditional basketball season opener.
The Old Flinderians played the current Flinders Firsts basketball teams – a mix of the current Girls’ Flinders First V and the Boys’ Flinders First V who are preparing for the 2019 season.
The much-anticipated match was also an opportunity for the Old Flinderians – who range in age from the Flinders Class of 1999 up to the Class of 2018 – to avenge their 2018 loss to the Flinders’ Firsts.
The match in the Flinders Sports Centre was a raucous and laughter-filled contest, which resulted in the Old Flinderians winning the game with a score of 104 to 85.
Match referee Bill Hooper (also Head of Curriculum and Teacher in Charge of Basketball) and match scorekeeper Adam Ridgewell (also Head of Sport) declared it a fair and competitive game.
Both teams, along with parents, staff and friend supporters, enjoyed a barbeque at the end of the match to celebrate a great game.
Flinders values the opportunity to welcome its alumni back to the College campus for various events, including sports matches, mentoring, guest speeches at awards and careers evenings, and more.
The College’s Old Flinderians’ alumni program aims to facilitate new opportunities for past students to “give back” to the College and inspire young students to achieve great things.
It also encourages a warm and caring community where both current and past students can enjoy the camaraderie of experiencing an education at Flinders and celebrate the strong school spirit that Flinders nurtures.
The Old Flinderians’ Association is encouraging all Flinders alumni to update their details so that the College can keep in touch when organising fun events such as this.
