As one of Queensland’s leading independent schools, Matthew Flinders Anglican College is inviting students with a passion and special talent for sport to apply for a sport scholarship.
Principal Stuart Meade said the Flinders Sport Scholarship was open to students who demonstrate outstanding talent in their chosen sport along with sound academic ability.
Students entering Years 7-12 in 2021 must apply for the Flinders Sport Scholarship and the Principal's Scholarship by Friday, 21 August.
Flinders' current sport scholars compete in the sports of athletics, AFL, basketball, cricket, cross country, hockey, netball, rugby, soccer, swimming, touch football and water polo.
“The Flinders Sport Scholarship gives developing and elite young athletes across a wide range of sports an opportunity to access a quality contemporary education,” Mr Meade said.
“Students involved in elite sport often feel tested by the conflicting demands upon them to train and compete while also committing to their study and co-curricular activities,” he said.
“Our incredible staff team at Flinders provides our sport scholars with the support, guidance and opportunities they need to reach their potential and prepare for tertiary study and beyond.”
Flinders supports sport scholars and elite student athletes with academic mentoring, time management and organisation skills training, timetable relief and individualised training and strength programs, as well as access to the College’s quality facilities on campus.
In 2021, the College will introduce the Flinders Elite Athlete Program (FEAP) for student athletes striving to perform with distinction on the national and international stage.
FEAP will provide additional mentoring support and guest speaker workshops as well as access to sport-related services and medical specialists.
“Flinders is a dynamic and caring environment for students striving for excellence, and we look forward to welcoming new students to our college community through our 2021 Scholarships Program.”
