For the third year in a row, Matthew Flinders Anglican College has been awarded a 5-Star Innovative School for 2024 by The Educator magazine, one of only 41 schools across Australia to be named.
Founded in 1990 on the Sunshine Coast, Flinders provides students from Prep to Year 12 with an education for excellence in learning and life.
The Educator applauded the 5-Star Innovative Schools of 2024 for “shaping the future of education by breaking the mould of traditional teaching and enabling their students to flourish with cutting-edge initiatives”.
The awards were announced here.
Now in its 10th year, The Educator report identified the following key areas where Flinders and other innovative schools have excelled in 2024:
- Learner-centric approach
- Agility in curriculum design and real-life relevance
- Integration of technology and AI
- Community engagement and wellbeing
- Cross-cultural competence and global mindedness
College Principal Michelle Carroll said it was an honour to once again be named as one of Australia’s most forward-thinking schools.
“At Flinders, our vision is to educate for excellence in learning and life, which requires a commitment to innovate across all areas of the College,” Ms Carroll said.
“We are delighted to accept the 5-Star Innovative Schools accolade, awarded to Flinders for the third consecutive year,” she said.
“This award recognises the future-focused education we provide our students from Prep to Year 12 to prepare them for an exciting and rewarding life, underpinned by meaning and purpose.
“Through innovation in curriculum design we are proudly equipping our students with the skills and character to positively impact the world.
“It’s exciting to see our students across all year levels embracing the opportunities to solve wicked world problems that are meaningful to them, using project-based learning that mimics real-world challenges.
“Our students are also fortunate to have access to rich technology and digital tools to enhance their projects and to be guided by our quality teaching team and the industry experts we connect with in our state-of-the-art Infinity Centre. The aim is for our students to become creative and masterful users of technology.
“Flinders also recognises the profound value of wellbeing as a foundation for personal growth and collective unity, and so we are intentional in supporting our students to build their cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual wellbeing throughout their schooling journey from Prep to Year 12.”
In 2024 Flinders was also nationally recognised with an Excellence Award for ‘Innovation in Curriculum Design’ for its bespoke Year to RISE program through the Australian Education Awards, and won The Educator’s ‘Sustainable Programs Award’ for its unique Flinders Farm and curriculum programs.
These accolades, complemented by recognition as a 5-Star Innovative School for the past three years and as the Primary School of the Year (Non-Government) at the 2023 Australian Education Awards, exemplify the College’s commitment to fostering a progressive yet rigorous learning environment for its students.
Located in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast, Flinders is a leading Queensland co-educational school providing a quality education for more than 1,400 students from Prep to Year 12.
