Matthew Flinders Anglican College has been recognised as an Excellence Awardee for 'Innovation in Curriculum Design' through the 2024 Australian Education Awards.
The College designed and delivered the innovative Year to RISE curriculum program for Year 9 students to engage in their learning, experience authentic opportunities and grow through challenges.
The Awards, now in their seventh year, showcase the achievements of the country’s top performing schools, principals, department heads and teachers across all states and territories, and all school sectors.
Year 9 is the Year to RISE at Flinders
Launched in January 2023, the Year to RISE is a research-informed program that is bespoke to Flinders.
The program encourages students to ask questions, seek solutions and take action; leveraging curiosity by striking a balance between knowledge development and inquiry.
The Year to RISE is future-focused as it encourages students to build skills towards mastery in various disciplines, engage in meaningful and transferable learning, and find purpose in key experiences whilst still readying themselves for the demands of Senior School (Years 10-12).
Students journey through a year-long program delivered through Core Subjects, Specialist Electives and innovative interdisciplinary Fusion Courses.
There are also Immersive Discovery Tours (four-day adventure camps) and a suite of interactive workshops and conferences designed to build skills in design thinking and enterprise while developing the 6Cs, also known as Flinders Learner Traits.
The culminating project challenges students to design and develop their own capstone projects, and then exhibit and present the resulting product or solution to a public audience at the Year to RISE Project Showcase.
In 2024, the Showcase will host more than 450 guests, including students, staff, parents, friends and community members.
The Showcase marks the conclusion of Middle School for our Year 9 students, and is a special way to showcase the skills, traits and concepts learned throughout the year.
