As the 2021 school year comes to an end and Year 12 students await their final ATAR results to be announced on Friday, 17 December, Matthew Flinders Anglican College recognises the strong National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results achieved by its students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
In 2021's NAPLAN, there were 97% of students at Flinders performing above national minimum standards in all domains across all years.

What is NAPLAN?
NAPLAN is a nationwide annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across four areas of Reading, Writing, language conventions (Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy.
NAPLAN results allow parents, carers and educators to see how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy over time – individually, as part of their school community, and against national standards.
Top outcomes a result of strong curriculum delivery
Flinders Head of Analytics, Mr Greg Blanch said the results achieved validate the College’s strong curriculum delivery and quality teaching offering across the Primary and Secondary Schools.
“Of particular note is the 100% of students performing above national minimum standards in Numeracy across all Years 3, 5, 7 and 9,” Mr Blanch said.
“And the mean scale scores (cohort average) (see the graphics below) show Flinders students performing better than the nation in all domains and all year levels,” he said.
Student growth compared to nation
“What’s more, students at the College also showed higher rates of growth when compared to the nation.
- Flinders students in Years 3 to 5 at 21% greater than the nation’s growth
- Students in Years 5 to 7 at 7% greater
- Students in Years 7 to 9 at 1% greater
“Our students’ results in the upper two bands also give cause for celebration, with significantly greater percentages in all year levels and all domains when compared to the state (see table below).
“Student performance at this high end, shows that in general Flinders has twice as many students obtaining scores in the upper two bands than the state.”
