Old Flinderian Patrice Tipoki Stars in 'Moulin Rouge: The Musical'

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is coming to Queensland, with shows at Brisbane’s QPAC from 16 May to 27 July.

And Old Flinderian Patrice Tipoki - who graduated from Matthew Flinders Anglican College with the Class of 2000 - is taking on the role of Satine alternate in the production!

Patrice has travelled Australia with this production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, most recently performing in Sydney’s Capitol Theatre.

The show is set to transform QPAC’s Lyric Theatre into a Parisian nightclub, with a spectacular handcrafted windmill centre stage that took 20 people more than two months to create!

Patrice shares the role of Satine with Alina Chidzey, and has one confirmed show a week, which she says has affectionately become known as ‘Tipoki Tuesday,' as well as covering for unforeseen circumstances.

After graduating from Flinders in 2000, Patrice followed her passion for the creative arts, reaching great heights as an actor, singer and performer.

Patrice is part of the third generation of performers in her extended family - or the fourth, if you count her four young children who already love to perform backstage while touring with their talented mum.

Patrice grew up touring on the road with her parents who were performers with the Queensland Arts Council, until settling on the Sunshine Coast and joining Flinders for her high school journey, graduating in 2000. Her grandparents were entertainers as well.

And Patrice's sister, Laura and brother were recently in key roles on the set of Hamilton: The Musical.

As talented artists and Old Flinderians, Patrice and Laura are positive role models for Flinders students, showing that it takes passion, persistence, resilience and plenty of hard work to achieve your career dreams, especially in a competitive industry such as the performing arts.

Patrice’s musical theatre career has also been a colourful and rewarding one with dream roles in a range of major shows, from Disney's The Lion King to playing Fantine in Les Miserables on London's West End as well as on stages around Australia, Singapore and Dubai.

Patrice was nominated for a Helpmann Award for her portrayal as Fantine.

She also loves recording and has released a few singles and performed on tour.
