Year 10 Psychology

Psychology is a school-developed subject which examines the development of psychology as a science, the role of the brain in processes such as memory, sleep, and the influences on adaptive and maladaptive behaviours. Students’ understandings will be developed through concepts including:

  • The structures and functions of the brain
  • States of consciousness and stages of sleep
  • Memory, including mnemonics and study strategies
  • Diagnosis and key features of mood and anxiety disorders

Psychology aims to develop students’ interest in psychology and their appreciation for how this knowledge can be applied to contemporary issues. Students use the scientific method in psychology to collect primary data, and use statistics to analyse evidence and draw conclusions. Students also have an opportunity to examine secondary psychological data to evaluate claims and understand the process of psychological research.
