Pack a picnic, pop on some neon and join us under the stars for a classic reimagined...
Flinders Dramatic Arts students will present a fun and flashy 1980s-set adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night or What You Will over three shows from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on Monday, 19 May to Wednesday, 21 May at Matthew Flinders Anglican College.
This lively romcom features a playlist of unforgettable ‘80s hits by iconic bands (think: Duran Duran, Kylie, Cyndi Lauper and The Police) to explore a story of mistaken identities, love triangles, preposterous pranks and comedic misunderstandings.
The picnic-style production is set in the open air under neon festoon lights on The Green, Flinders’ stunning new landscaped outdoor stage, seating terrace and turfed plaza space in the world-class Infinity Centre forecourt.
The Green opened in January 2024 as an outdoor learning zone and as a creative and communal space to gather, exhibit art and perform, just like a village green.
Tickets are limited, so bring your friends and family along for this snappy Senior School production, which—like the ‘80s decade itself—is over too soon at just 90 minutes’ duration. Book now here.
Twelfth Night is directed by Mr Andy Fraser, the College’s Director of Dramatic Arts, and performed by 20 students, with 10 students working as technical crew behind the scenes.
Each night of the production, The Green venue will open at 6:00pm, giving the audience time to settle in for their picnics and enjoy a 1980s-inspired playlist over the ‘boombox’. The show runs from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
Principal Michelle Carroll said it was exciting for Flinders students to perform in an outdoor venue and to explore the art of adapting classic pieces with confidence.
“Our Dramatic Arts students at Flinders have multiple opportunities each year to contribute to modern and classic productions and to grow their skills across professional venues and alternative spaces,” Ms Carroll said.
“These rich and diverse co-curricular opportunities are vital for our students’ growth and development as artists and lifelong learners.”
